Frequently Asked Questions...
Am I too early on in my transition?
It's never too early or too late to start vocal training! No matter where you're at in your transition, we will work together to find a voice that's perfect for you. Just be prepared for a lot of work! Retraining a lifetime of speaking habits, that we often think very little about, requires consistent daily practice.
Is vocal training only for women?
This is a common misconception! Vocal training is for any and all genders. While it is true that HRT for men generally lowers their voices, this is not always the case. One study showed that 21% of men did not reach cis-male speaking pitch after a year of T (Ziegler et al., 2018). Additionally, non-binary people may wish to neutralize their voice, and gender fluid individuals may wish to develop multiple vocal profiles.
How long does it take?
The length of services varies from person to person. Generally, anywhere from 6-12 months. Initially one might start once a week, and then taper off to every other week (or less) as their skills progress. Factors influencing this can include previous vocal training, motivation, practice outside of sessions, vocal hygiene, and how frequently you're presenting as your authentic gender.
