Time, Talks, and Thoughts / by Brett Welch

Holy crap - where has time gone?

One year of Transformative Communications being in business was… well - back in July. And yes, it’s the end of October as I’m writing this. For what it’s worth - I was in the middle of helping my partner move across the country during that time, and I was not focused on writing a blog post, lol. And then the Fall semester started… And now it’s October. On that note, what a year (and some change) it’s been! I once dreamed of having my own practice working with individuals on their voice, and I can’t believe that it’s been year of living that dream. I’m humbled by the lessons I’ve learned, both from other clinicians as well as the amazing clients that I’ve had the privilege to work with. And I look forward to continuing to grow as a clinician, business, researcher, and scientist. The PhD program is going well; it is very busy, but I am thoroughly enjoying the program as well as honing in on my research interests.

In the last year, I’ve also had the privilege to attend a few conferences. Last weekend, I had the honor of presenting at Gender Infinity. I went last year and had an amazing time, but noticed no one was talking about voice - one of the biggest topics people bring up regarding transitioning. So I thought I’d change that. For the first time when discussing voice and communication along the gender spectrum, I was getting to present to an audience of gender-diverse individuals about voice and giving them the tools to leave that talk with the knowledge to explore their voice. I had an absolute blast, got some great feedback, and I’m looking forward to being able to give more talks like this. Once again, Gender Infinity was superb with its wonderful content and I highly, highly recommend people going if they think it’s something they’d be interested in!

That’s all for now - this grant I’m mildly-procrastinating on won’t write itself!
